"This guide will help your dog acclimatise to coming into the groomers and vets with their tail in the air and a big grin! They will pull you in so hold tight!"
- 10 minutes a day for 2 weeks
- Loads of high value treats! such as diced chicken or ham.
visiting time!
Week one:
Every time you walk through the market please walk up to the door and stay outside for 5 minutes playing your best friend with all their favourite treats. If they wont take the treats, that is perfectly normal, just sit with them and reassure them in their favourite way. Bring their toy along, anything that will help them relax. Then just move on and carry on with your walk. feel free to do it again on the way back if the session has been successful.
If it wasn't successful and there was no visible relaxation at all, or the dog was reluctant to even enter the market, do the above step where they first put on the breaks.
Desensitising programme
Day 1 - walking past the shop, only giving treats.
Day 2 - Standing outside the door without coming in with giving treats
Day3 - I come open the door say hello to you and we have a chat whilst ignoring the dog.
Day4 - You would both come inside and we would talk more and I would then acknowledge the dog and give plenty of their favourite treats. It would be a literal 5 10-minute chat and then they go home/walk again.
Day 1 - 4 is no charge.
Then we would start on working up bringing the dog into the salon and placing them on the table seeing how they react. Lots of calm attention and then being placed straight back down with nothing happening. If they do ok then we repeat the process two or three times. - £10
We would then invite back in the next day to be placed on the table again but this time the tools will be there but not being used. The next day we would start brushing the dog on the table, rewarding all the while. Once the dog is comfortable with this we would then go back to step one but with the bath instead of the table, and then after that, the dryer and nails. There is no time scale for this, it does vary from dog to dog and the pricing would reflect this too.
